Starting this one off with multiple apologies.  One apology for the lack of a Monday column.  Decided to hang out late at a Memorial Day BBQ on Sunday night, so took Memorial Day off.  This is probably going to be something I do with holidays most of the time, though with more notice in the future.  Usually going to miss the day after the holiday, as I write my columns the night before.

The second apology, is to all those who went with Vance Worley on Sunday night.  He cost me ERA and WHIP in my week eight matchup on Sunday night, and I'm sure some of you readers got bit as well.  I had no reason to think he'd be bad here but he just didn't have his control on Sunday night.  Hopefully you had also played Dempster, who delivered a fully solid start in all aspects while grabbing a win.  If you were in a deep league and went with Guillermo Moscoso, the ERA wasn't pretty, but the WHIP was good and he picked up a win for you.

Starting week nine here late on Tuesday.  Today's recommended pitcher that's available in at least fifty percent of leagues is coming up...

Tuesday's Starter Recommendation - Mike Minor - Atlanta Braves vs San Diego Padres - 7:10 PM ET - 0.8% Owned in ESPN Leagues

I'm a big Mike Minor fan, and always enjoy leaning toward hot prospects anyway.  Minor had a poor first outing this year, but went 5.2 innings with just one earned run in his last outing against the Pirates, and draws an even better matchup here this time out.  The Padres are last in the league in batting average and strikeout more than any other team in the majors.  Minor has the talent to take care of the Padres lineup here with no problems.  He is owned in far less leagues than his talent dictates because he is going back to the minors after this start, but get the usefulness out of him now.  He's also my deep league recommendation, as he's owned in less than one percent of all leagues.

Tuesday's Starter Alternate - Freddy Garcia - New York Yankees at Oakland Athletics - 10:05 PM ET - 6.3% Owned in ESPN Leagues

Garcia has been serviceable so far this season since joining the Yankee rotation, and draws the great matchup here on Tuesday.  He's always a win candidate with the Yankee lineup backing him up, and the Athletics were shut out by Bartolo Colon on Monday night over nine innings.  Garcia should be able to deliver nearly as good results here against the same lineup on Tuesday night.  Look for six or seven innings with a shot to pick up a win.

Thats it for the Spot Starters today.  Pickup column will return tomorrow.  Still relaxing on Memorial Day.
