Porcello got rained out Tuesday night, and I didn't offer up an alternative on an otherwise poor night for starter choices.  Sorry about that, but I didn't trust anyone else.  Wednesday we have a good starter and a solid alternate, so if you need two, feel free to take both and expect good results.  Wednesday's gem candidate coming up...

Wednesday's Recommended Starter - Brandon McCarthy - Oakland Athletics at Minnesota Twins - 10:05 PM ET - 8.5% Owned in ESPN Leagues

McCarthy has been solid so far this year in all but one start, and draws an excellent matchup against the Twins at home on Wednesday night.  He has a 1-4 record on the year, but has turned in five quality starts in eight outings and kept the ERA below 4.50 in the other two starts by staying in through the eighth inning.  McCarthy hasn't been striking guys out at an insane rate, but he has been going deep enough into all of his starts that he has been racking up a passable amount of strikeouts.  The Twins offense has been the worst in the league so far this year, and is always worth starting your pitchers against.  McCarthy should give you around five strikeouts in a quality start with a good shot to snap up a win.

Wednesday's Alternate - Ryan Dempster - Chicago Cubs at Florida Marlins - 7:10 PM ET - 42.0% Owned in ESPN Leagues

Dempster has overcome a rough start to turn in three strong starts in a row.  He has been striking out nearly a batter per inning and has been pitching far better overall than his 6.71 ERA suggests.  His FIP is 4.73 and his xFIP (which normalizes his unusually high homer rate so far) is a shiny 3.28.  The ERA is going to come back down to earth and the strikeouts are going to be there.  If you are desperate for strikeouts you are going to take Dempster over McCarthy, but McCarthy's much better matchup makes him the far better bet.

Wednesday's Deep League Starter - Julio Teheran - Atlanta Braves at Arizona Diamondbacks - 9:40 PM ET - 0.8% Owned in ESPN Leagues

Teheran is going to bounce up and down from the minors throughout the year for the Braves, but he's going to be worth starting when he comes up.  He only lasted 4.2 innings in his first appearance, but that came against a hot at the time Philly team.  He draws a better matchup against the Diamondbacks here on Wednesday, who have struck out the seventh most times of any team on the year.  He'll strikeout more guys than his first go, and the hot Atlanta lineup should give him a strong shot to pick up a win.
