At the end of a strong week seven, Porcello and Jackson were the Sunday cherry on top.  Porcello started a little earlier and turned in eight great innings of one hit ball.  You'd love more strikeouts, but there is no way to complain about eight innings of spotless ERA and near spotless WHIP and a win.  Porcello needs to be owned in more leagues than he is owned in right now.  Pick him up if you have the roster spot or need the pitcher. Jackson also went out there and turned in a very acceptable start. His ERA and WHIP weren't as great, but were still sparkling and he gave you seven strikeouts.

Week seven delivered great ERA and WHIP numbers with a decent number of wins even though the strikeouts weren't there.   However, I'm not going to change anything with my selection process.  The ERA and WHIP have been there, and just got unlucky with decent strikeout pitchers not picking up strikeouts.  Monday's spot starter is coming up...

Monday's Starter Recommendation - Jason Vargas - Seattle Mariners at Minnesota Twins - 8:10 PM ET - 11.9% Owned in ESPN Leagues

Vargas had a fairly poor April, but has turned it around in three solid starts here in May and has gone at least seven innings in all three starts.  He has won three of his last four games and has struck out 20 batters over his last four starts.  Vargas has the ability to strike a decent amount of players out and is on a roll here as he heads into Minnesota.  The Twins offense is still right at the bottom of the league and isn't showing any signs of turning it around any time soon.  You are going to be trotting out Vargas on Monday in any and all leagues.  He's worth the play whether or not you need the spot start as long as you have a roster spot for him.

Monday's Alternate - Bartolo Colon - New York Yankees vs Toronto Blue Jays - 7:05 PM ET - 24.4% Owned in ESPN Leagues

Bartolo has looked great so far this year for the Yankees, and has shown enough to be worth starting as an alternate on Monday even in a bad matchup.  Colon has a slick 3.16 ERA and 1.13 WHIP and has been striking out nearly a batter per inning.  He would be the recommended play today if he hadn't drawn the power laden Toronto offense.  He's still a decent option even in mixed leagues, but be willing to put him on the bench here if you have other better options this week.

No deep league option here tonight.  The guy most available who's worth starting is Carl Pavano.  The other matchups aren't worth the trouble.
