Week Six NFL Game Wrap Up - Steelers 17 Jaguars 13

I'm going game by game again this week, and it's time to wrap up the Jacksonville at Pittsburgh match-up from earlier this week.  Each game has it's own post here on the blog where I break down the game from both a real life perspective and fantasy perspective.   There isn't much to say in terms of of introduction though for any of these posts, so I'm just going to start it here right after the jump...

Jacksonville Jaguars 13 at Pittsburgh Steelers 17

  • In a different year, this probably would have been a total beat down for the Steelers of a rookie quarterback at home, but games like this are why I'm not sold on this year's Pittsburgh team.  They got up 17-3 by halftime but couldn't score any move points in the second half, and had to swat down a hail mary attempt to win what should have been and easy football game.  The schedule is still favorable to them, with the Cardinals next week, but they may have problems when they get to the meat of their schedule later in the season.
  • Blaine Gabbert still doesn't look good, but he doesn't have any real receivers in Jacksonville.  It's hard to evaluate a rookie quarterback in a situation where he has no one to throw to, and little creativity on the offensive side of the ball.
Fantasy Realities
  • Rashard Mendenhall had his best game of the season, but most of it came on the back of his career long 68 yard run.  I'm still not buying into him long term, and if I owned him I would attempt to sell high on him off this game, as I don't see him having a better one any time soon.
  • Maurice Jones-Drew managed a solid game, even with the expected bad match-up against the Steelers.  Jones-Drew is the only fantasy performer you want to be relying on out of Jacksonville.
