Fantasy Baseball Spot Starter Pickups For Monday 6/27/11

I'm back. I'm going to update the spreadsheet with the full stats from while I was gone later today, but for now I wanted to get everyone my recommendation for a starter here on Monday night.  It's a decent travel day here Monday, but there are still quality options available in more than fifty percent of leagues for you to add to your team...

Monday's Starter - Nick Blackburn - Minnesota Twins vs LA Dodgers - 8:10 PM ET - 9.0% Owned in ESPN Leagues

Blackburn has been quietly solid for the last two months.  Over his last ten starts he's held opponents to two runs or less in all but one of his starts.  That is the kind of innings eating that you'll take in any league, even if his strikeout numbers are not overwhelming.  His sparkling 1.77 June ERA should continue here, as in pitcher friendly Target Field against the bad Dodger Offense he should have no problems.  Start him freely here in all leagues and enjoy seven strong innings with a handful of strikeouts to go with.

Monday's Alternate - John Lannan - Washington Nationals at LA Angels - 10:05 PM ET - 5.9% Owned in ESPN Leagues

Lannan has been strong for six straight starts and hasn't taken a loss in over a month.  The Nationals offense has been on track lately and the team as a whole has gone 13-2 over it's last 15 games.  Lannan gets a decent matchup here at the Angels and has been pitching well enough that he was nearly the recommendation today.  The only worry here is that Lannan isn't a pitcher with a great track record and might not fare as well in an AL park playing against the DH.  He's still a worthy start here as an alternate, but I'd try for Blackburn first.

No deep league recommendation today, as there's just no one remotely trustable that's owned in less than one percent of leagues.  The daily hitter pickup column may or may not be out today.  Working on a format change for that column.  There will be at least one more post today though, so be sure to check back here at Big Derf Sports later in the day.
