Week Five NFL Wrap Up - Bills 31 Eagles 24

Last week, I promise that I would recap all of this weeks games, and while it's a bit late in the week, I'm going to wrap them all up over the next 24 hours before making picks for the fresh slate of week six games.  Each post is going to cover the game from both a real life perspective and a fantasy perspective for both teams involved....

Philadelphia Eagles 24 at Buffalo Bills 31
  • This Eagles team might be the end of the line for the Andy Reid era.  It's the worst example so far for the Eagles of the Andy Reid teams that have beat themselves year after year despite putting up massive statistical numbers.  This year's team isn't going to even get to beat themselves in the playoffs, as Michael Vick is a far less reliable ball controller then even late-Philly vintage Donovan McNabb and his tendency to turn the ball over is going to keep this team below .500.  If they go 4-12 shooting themselves in the foot the whole way, the Eagles brass might finally fire Andy Reid.
  • The Bills turned it around after that loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, getting themselves to 4-1 and in a good position early in the season.  The problem for the Bills is they have only beat Kansas City convincingly, and needed multiple tip ball picks of Tom Brady and Michael Vick, including a pick six off of each of them, in order to win those games.  This team could easily be 1-4 if a couple of breaks went the other way.
Fantasy Realities
  • Fred Jackson is obviously a must start in every fantasy league right now, and should be valued like a top five running back for trade purposes if you own him.  I'm still not sold on trading for him though, as I don't think the Bills will keep up this offensive performance all season long.
  • I don't believe in the Bills offense because of Ryan Fitzpatrick.  It was the second poor performance in a row for him for fantasy purposes, and the book might be out on him somewhat.  We'll see if he can take advantage of the poor Giants secondary on Sunday.
  • Michael Vick continues to be a fantasy beast in spite of the turnovers, but they have to worry you for real life purposes, as if he keeps it up, Andy Reid might send him to the bench eventually.  Philly fans are ready to start booing Vick.
That's all for this game.  Oakland and Houston coming up next. As always, feedback either in the comments or to bigderfsports@gmail.com is greatly appreciated.
